Physicians
Roy Varghese, M.D. received his medical degree from Trivandrum Medical College in Kerala, India. Dr. Varghese is a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician with additional training in Infectious Diseases. Dr. Varghese worked for Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. part time in the 1980’s. Dr. Varghese came on board full time in March 1992 and is presently Chief of the Professional Staff and Chairman of various hospital committees. Dr. Varghese is a certified ACLS & PALS Instructor. Dr. Varghese and his wife Dr. Lilly Varghese reside in Hyden, KY. They have 4 daughters; three are doctors and one is an engineer.
Madeline Tan, M.D. is a Board Certified Pediatrician that received her medical degree from Gullas College of Medicine in Mandaue City, Philippines. Dr. Tan came to Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. full time in January of 2003. Dr. Tan is married to Dr. Abdelhamid Bourbia, a Pediatrician and Neonatologist, and they reside in Hazard, KY. Dr. Tan serves on various committees and is presently Chairman of the Credentials Committee.
Anita Cornett, M.D. is a Board Certified Internal Medicine physician. Dr. Cornett received her Bachelor’s Degree from Georgetown College and her medical degree from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Cornett has worked in various capacities for Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. since 1990; ER physician, staff physician, clinic physician. Dr. Cornett is presently the Medical Director of FNS, Inc., working with the Rural Health Clinics located in Leslie & Clay counties. Dr. Cornett is married to Brad Caldwell and they have two children, Katie and Bob. They reside in Manchester, KY.
Ferdousi Begum, M.D. is Board Certified in Internal Medicine. After finishing her residency in Internal Medicine, she joined the University of Kentucky Family Practice as an Assistant professor teaching and supervising medical students. Dr. Begum started working for Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. in July of 2004. Dr. Begum is married to Dr. Mohammed Islam and they have two children. Dr. Begum and her family reside in Hazard, KY.

 Albino Nunez, M.D. received his medical degree from Manila Central University in the Philippines. Dr. Nunez started working with Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. in 1989 as the ER physician and is presently working part time in the Rural Health Clinics. Dr. Nunez and his wife Dawn reside in Harlan, KY with their children and grand-children.

 

Family Nurse Practitioners
Heidi Froemke, FNP is a graduate of the Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing in Hyden, KY. Heidi is Board Certified with the ANCC and has been working with Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. since 1993. She has worked in various capacities with the Rural Health Clinics in Leslie & Clay counties. Heidi is presently Director of the Rural Healthcare Clinics. She resides at Wendover, KY.

 Angela R. Mitchell, FNP is a graduate of Case Western Reserve University. She started with Mary Breckinridge Healthcare, Inc. and Frontier Nursing Healthcare, Inc. in June of 2002. Angela is Board Certified with the ANCC and presently works at the Kate Ireland Health Clinic in Manchester, KY. Angela received her Doctor of Nursing Degree at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio in 2003.
Kathryn Lauderdale, FNP comes to us from Alabama and is a National Health Service Corps Scholar. She started working for Frontier Nursing Healthcare, Inc. in December of 2003. Kathryn is Board Certified with the ANCC and is presently working at the Beechfork Clinic in Asher, KY.
Linda Ahrens, FNP is a graduate of the Mennonite College of Nursing in Bloomington, IL. Linda first came to us a Locum Tenen FNP in March of 2002 for three months. Linda came back as a full time in May of 2003. She is Board Certified with the ANCC and presently works at the Community Health Clinic at Big Creek, KY.
Janessa Johnson, FNP is a graduate of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. She came on board in May of 2005 and is certified with AANP. Janessa is married to Brian Johnson and they reside in Hazard, KY.

 

Certified Nurse Midwife
Elissa Miller, CNM is a graduate of the Frontier School of Midwifery & Family Nursing in Hyden, KY. Elissa started in January of 2005 as the new Director of Midwifery Services. She is certified with the ACNM and works in the Kate Ireland Health Clinic in Manchester, KY and the Dr. Anne Wasson Clinic in Hyden, KY. Elissa and her husband reside in Hyden, KY.
 
Laura Manns-James, CNM is a graduate of the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden, KY December 2001. Laura has been working with FNH, Inc. since March of 2004. She is certified with the ACNM and works in the Kate Ireland Health Clinic in Manchester, KY and the Dr. Anne Wasson Clinic in Hyden, KY. Laura resides in Manchester, KY with her husband Randall and baby daughter.

 Sheila Megan Griffith, CNM is a graduate of the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in 1997. Sheila has worked with Frontier Nursing Healthcare, Inc. part time since July of 2004. She is certified with the ACNM and works at the Kate Ireland Health Clinic in Manchester, KY. Sheila and her husband Harry reside in Richmond, KY.

Sherry Larissa Maggard-Pack, PA is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, Office of Allied Health, in June 2001.  She did her internship at the Hazard Clinic in Hazard, KY.  She has been working at Christian Family Healthcare since November of  2004.  Larissa is married to Charlie Pack and they reside in Hyden, KY.
